Modernized Dentistry with a Gentler Touch

At Maine Pediatric Dentistry, we believe children should experience dentistry that is gentler to the touch, yet innovative in its approach. Using digital impressions, a CT/Cone Beam Scanner, and intraoral cameras, we can reduce the common fears many children have when visiting the dentist and instead create a more enjoyable, comfortable, and kid-friendly experience at our South Portland and Auburn pediatric dental offices. Digital Dental Impressions

Biting down into cold, messy dental putty is enough to make any child want to avoid the dentist’s office. Fortunately, we no longer take this approach. Instead, we use a digital dental impression system that quickly scans a child’s smile and projects a three-dimensional model on a nearby computer screen. Here, we can make adjustments before sending it to a dental lab for restoration fabrication.

CT/Cone Beam Scanner

When a child is recommended for complex dental care, proper treatment planning is vital to the success of their results and healing. Instead of relying solely on dental X-rays, we use a CT/Cone Beam Scanner. Made to capture images of a child’s head and smile in just seconds, the photos combine to create a 3D model that highlights the bones, teeth, gums, nerves, blood vessels, and more. This allows our team to easily examine these areas and craft a customized treatment plan with ease.

Intraoral Camera

Children can now get more excited about visiting the dentist thanks to the intraoral camera used. Instead of waiting to have the dentist explain what is happening inside their mouth, this device scans a child’s teeth and gums so that the images are immediately seen on a chairside monitor. This allows children to visualize what is going on and better understand why good oral hygiene is crucial to the longevity and health of their growing smile.
